Pictures Of What Absurd Is
Definition:adjective wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate
I picked this picture because i found it stood out more than any ordinary picture this is because it is a weird strange photography idea. Half of the man is in the water and half is out and the bike matches him just like its a mirror image also the colour of the water blend in with his swimming cap. The second picture is also strange with a dog on top of the basketball net.
Activity 1: Hide
Set:1
I decided to take these pictures because the aim of our task was hide. Also keeping in mind our main objective of making absurd pictures which are strange and that you wouldn't expect any photographer to take a picture of, My next set of picture will be more absurd and i would think of good creative ideas to use for the pictures. These pictures would be better if i had been more creative, made sure certain pictures are in focus while others don't have to be so i can mix up my ideas with normal pictures or try upside down pictures for a trial and error piece to see what i get out of it.
Set:2
These are my second set on pictures i have decided to do, for trial and error and it worked out successful i had also tried another technique by taking pictures through another phone and half images of different things other photographers may not have came up with this worked quite well because it allowed me to show pictures which were half hidden and that meets the objective of the project although it could have been better but using over lapping objects to hide things.
Activity 2: Signs
Examples of Signs in real life & photography:
I found this picture quite good because not only relates to my aim of the pictures i have to take but also words written on blinds but we do not know where the picture was taken or who had seen it so its more interesting and makes us think more about who would have seen it, who came up with the idea and what was their reaction when they saw this.
Research of David Shrigley:
He studied at 'Glasgow school of art' from 1988-99 he also has done many solo and group exhibitions. David Shrigley is a visual artist, he took the Art and Design Foundation course at the Leicester Polytechnic in 1987 and then studied environmental art at the Glasgow School of Art from 1988 to 1991.
Examples of David Shrigley:
Set 1:
Set: 2
In this collection I established a more absurd gallery of pictures for example the photo of a mysterious gift on the fire alarm box this is absurd because no gift will come out if it is pulled open, another example is the speed bump on the caution sign this is also absurd because there is no actual speed bump so it will confuse people and make them think why I had one this.
Photoshop Edits:
In this set i decided to take my first load of pictures and come up with an idea the caution signs and the sorry the picture is missing was a trial and error to see if two pictures will go together if i overlapped them. My most successful picture was the sign where i found a way to do my own piece of text beside the room number this is because it is an easy copy to fool people into thinking this is an actual sign. I done this by using photoshop and using any writing but this in particular because its like bubble writing and i use this sentence because i thought it would be quite funny as we are not aloud to wear hoodies in class.
Forced Perspective
Set 1:
I am going to improve these pictures by making sure both the hand and person are in focus, i will also be trying different types of forced perspective, although these pictures were half way to being successful they just need to be more absurd.
Examples of forced perspective:
I likes these pictures especially, because they are creative I love they way the middle one they have an interesting background because they poured water to match the watch fall, in comparison the the superman one the guy is upside down going down escalators and isn't much of a background. The third one I like as well because I saw it and i had to look back to figure out what was going on and it is also upside down so I found this interesting because its almost like a brain buster but just in a picture.
Set2:
I made this to show the steps in order of me pinching someones head as they walked up the stairs and while they was standing still at the end. This worked more successful than just pictures on its own. I done this image by place two tigers in a on the top and bottoms in a pinch position then as they walked i snapped pictures and put them into a collage by using photoshop and my other images was holding the feet with my hand placed where there feet would be so it looks like I'm holding them. Another picture i done was flicking people and i done this by taking lots of pictures as i flick them from a distance. what went well about these is it is believe able and quite absurd because it is forced perception although, it would have been better if i could have made my ideas more wide ranged. my next idea for absurd will include split heads with different faces in one picture.
Split Heads:
Examples of split heads:
I saw these 3 pictures on google and I thought I would put this on my website because I thought about it and all the pictures look quite similar almost like they have been taken around the same time and all have the same contrast in a way of mixture of black and white or a old dirty colour so they are old pictures I can infer this because the fashion for example clothes and hair styles are from the old days. They are also similar because the first one both the women and man are smiling so it fits in with the picture and they face part and in the same place as each other, just like the other two all the facial parts are in the same place. Although the differences are they have all been taken from different angles and put together differently to match each side, and they last two are also not smiling but are looking in the same direction which makes it fix together.Lastly all the pictures have different background images for example they all in a room but different lighting in background of the pictures. I would like to try these pictures for my last piece but only using different angles and light also different colour and backgrounds also using my class mates or some teachers and maybe a couple famous peoples pictures and I might experiment in photoshop once it is complete to see if I can improve them. These pictures where taken by a photographer who does these sort of pictures called John Stezaker.
Research on John Stezaker:
John Stazaker had got a high diploma in fine art in 1973, in the mid 2000s his work was noticed by the art market. His work is surreal and often uses collage to make photos of two different people. He is know for conceptual art and studied in an art school called 'slade school of art' in London.
Set 1:
First Piece
First final piece
Panarama
My next idea will be panoramas off of my iPhone this is because if the camera for this certain idea is used wrong it develops multiple images or disfigured images and i will then experiment while inside and outside of school.
First Attempt
Second Attempt
The idea of panoramas was difficult for me because i couldn't get the technique correct so i will be doing face rotations and placing things in places to make the picture absurd.
First Attempt
My first attempt was quite successful and i will be trying to do more in order to improve and will choose one to become my second final piece.
